How to Choose a Persian-Speaking (Farsi) Realtor in Toronto and the GTA

Short answer: choose a Persian-speaking realtor the same way you would choose any agent. Confirm the agent is registered with RECO, expect to receive and have explained the RECO Information Guide before any services, get your representation agreement in writing before you make an offer, and ask about local experience in the area you are buying or renting in.

Why language matters in a real estate deal

Offers, conditions, deposits and closing dates move fast. Working in your first language helps you understand each document before you sign. It does not replace the protections Ontario law gives every client.

1. Check registration

Agents and brokerages in Ontario are regulated under the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA) and registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario. Use RECO's public registrant search to confirm the person's name, registration status and brokerage.

2. Expect the RECO Information Guide

Under TRESA, a registrant must give you and explain the RECO Information Guide before providing services or assistance (RECO Bulletin 2.1: RECO Information Guide). It explains the difference between being a client and a self-represented party.

3. Get the agreement in writing

If a buyer representation agreement starts verbally, the brokerage must put it in writing, sign it and give it to you to sign as soon as possible, and before you make an offer. Read the term, commission and the geographic area it covers.

4. Questions to ask

  • Which brokerage are you registered with?
  • How many buyers or tenants have you helped in this area?
  • Will you explain every document in Persian before I sign?
  • Who else on your team will I deal with?
